In conversation with Deepak Bansal, Director Cantabil – The ups and downs of Retail Chain

Well, I have been using apparels of Cantabil brand for a few years now and have loved the precision and expertise of the brand, stitching out apparels from their fully equipped, state of the art factory in Bahadurgarh, Haryana where more than 1000 workers create wonders with clothes. Team Exablogs, recently got some insights into the brand during a conversation with Mr Deepak Bansal, Director.

The Cantabil brand was launched in 2000 by Mr Vijay Bansal. His son, Deepak Bansal gave us details about the current working and future plans about the company. Cantabil Retail India Ltd. is in the business of designing, manufacturing, branding and retailing of apparels under the brand name of CANTABIL. Currently they have a network of 285 exclusive retail outlets & employee strength of more than 2500 spread across India. The Company started its garments manufacturing and retailing business in the year 2000 and opened its first Cantabil store in New Delhi. The Cantabil brand offers the complete range of formal-wear, party-wear, casuals & ultracasual clothing for Men and Women in the middle to high income group. In the last 19 years, Cantabil has become a complete family wear brand with addition of women’s wear segment in 2007 under brand name Crozo. They launched another brand Kaneston in 2013 catering to men’s segment in accessories like under-garments, ties, belts, socks, caps and handkerchief etc. Their brand Lil’ Potatoes specifically caters to kids fashion.

The company started up from garment accessories business and then moved to garment manufacturing after having coined the name from an Italian word ‘cantabile’ and is inspired by designs based on fashion in international markets. Today, CANTABIL brand offers the complete range of formal-wear, party-wear, casuals and ultracasual clothing for men, women and kids in the middle to high income group.

Just like the name, their designs are inspired from Italy and so are the samplings from Italy. They also use foreign technology for making suits, trousers and shirts and has specialised machines for products like wrinkle free trousers and shirts. Today, they make 1 lakh pieces per month in house, have specialised suit plant with all imported machines and a dedicated unit for denim and casual units.

Mr Bansal briefed us about the current financials and future plans, “FY 19 was a crucial year for us as the company continued to focus on the growth agenda. We closed the fiscal year with an increase of 46.29% in total revenue from Financial Year 2017-18 to Rs. 28,855.08 Lakhs in Financial Year 2018-19. We are now looking forward to 30 % YOY growth and hope to achieve target of Rs 1000 cr sales in the next five years. At present the company is targeting 70-80 new showrooms every year mainly in tier 2 and tier 3 cities apart from metro cities like Pune, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Vadodra, Lucknow, Patna, Ranchi, Meerut, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Udaipur, Agra etc. Kid’s wear has come up with an additional advantage for the company keeping in mind the non- existence of much established brands in kids wears market”.

He actively looks after the complete preparedness of marketing strategy. He has an immense interest in finding the newer and upcoming markets & setting up retail footprints of the company there.
