The Healing Sea: Benefits of Thalassotherapy

We all live very stressful life these days. Huge targets to meet, family responsibilities, and what not – everything takes a bite of our physical strengths and appearances. We start aging fast much before our real age.

Well, “Aging” is an age-old phenomenon since the beginning of this world. Everyone is afraid of this but no proper solution is available. Lots of people do try to improvise their lifestyles in order to look fit and stay healthy when they grow old. But that’s not enough and you always need treatment to take you forward.

So is a solution available?

Yes, there is; there are methods in Modern Science that can solve Aging. But being a naturalist I would like to do it Nature’s way, and also the fact is that chemical treatments always have side effects.

So the question again is, Do we have a solution?

The answer lies with the seawater from oceans. Our earth is more than 70% water, and 97 percent of the Earth’s water can be found in our oceans. And these oceans are nature’s own treasures. It also has been rightly said by Plato that The sea cures all ailments of man.

Sea water has been very effectively used in various skin treatments, and it does wonders for our skin when treated properly. Thalassotherapy is the therapeutic use of seawater as a form of therapy. It is based on the systematic use of seawater, sea products, and shore climate. The trace elements magnesium, potassium, calcium, sodium, and iodides found in seawater are believed to be absorbed through the skin and do wonders.

Thalassotherapy is derived from the Greek words thalassa (“the sea”) and therapia(“treat”). The principle behind Thalassotherapy is that repeated immersion in warm seawater, marine mud, and protein-rich algae helps restore the body’s natural chemical balance.

Thalassotherapy centers or more commonly the Thalasso provide not only spa treatments and the emphasis is not only on relaxation and beauty but also on healing.

Thalassotherapy treatments include baths with underwater massage; body wraps with alluvial mud, algae, or different types of micronised seaweed, which deliver the minerals in more concentrated forms.  Different treatments have different effects, including pain relief, slimming and toning, detoxifying, and relief of skin conditions like acne and eczema.

Used as an alternative treatment for a number of medical conditions, it’s also an extremely beneficial tool for stress reduction and relaxation. It also increases metabolism, improves circulation, is great for your skin, and helps treat arthritis and general muscular problems.

Thalasso is commonly located by the sea sides and the facilities include pools of varying sizes and temperatures for various purposes. There are a lot of spas around the world, but we only have a few in Asia.

But then while surfing the net I once came across AYANA Resort and Spa and their renowned health spa including Thalassotherapy got me interested. It now was on my must-visit list of mine. Ayana Spa offers other signature therapies too, along with Thalassotherapy in the healing waters of Thermes Marines.
