What next after School? It’s a dilemma for every student and parent. The traditional degree courses leading to a technical or medical career are losing their shine over the last few years. There are multiple reasons for that. Pursuing a career in engineering or medicine can be because of parental pressure or competition with colleagues, etc. A lot of students opting for such a career fail to make headway and often look for another option midway through their college lives.
Alternative careers leading to a much more fruitful and satisfying career life are a great option for such students. But, the problem is the lack of information
This is where Toprankers, India’s largest test-prep platform for alternative careers comes into the picture. Gaurav Goel, CEO, and co-founder of Toprankers says, “The idea behind launching this platform was to aid students who aspire to make alternative career choices. One of India’s leading online test preparation platforms, Toprankers helps students in their preparation journey for a career in law, judiciary services, design, management, fashion, and architecture.”
Toprankers has Legal Edge, Super Grads, Judiciary Gold, and Creative Edge as their brands, and offers test preparation for entrance tests such as IPMAT, NATA, NID, CLAT, CUET, SETT, DU JAT, NPAT, and other similar examinations from the comfort of their homes for all the students who have passed X, XI, XII.
Team Exablogs was recently in conversation with Gaurav who himself is an engineer, but now helping others choose careers other than engineering. He shared his journey and briefed us about how he fought all the odds and made Toprankers the most popular test preparation platform for alternative careers in India.
We launched this platform seven years back in 2015. A lot of coaching centers prior were on offline models. Since a lot of competitive exams are now conducted on online modes, it was very important that the student is well aware of the online formats and also how to tackle the tests. And also the learning process has to be in the digital medium.
With this idea, we created a comprehensive platform for careers beyond medicine and engineering. Our aim was to create a complete learning ecosystem with mock tests, proper career guidance, and discovery. We started with the test series and then launched our video products, and live online programs from different domains. As of today, we have about 5 million users on the platform and sold close to 250,000 products with a turnover of USD 3 million.
We have traveled a long distance since then. Today from the results for CLAT- out of the top 2000 students, 750 are from Toprankers, i.e. to say every second student in national law schools comes from Toprankers. We currently are catering to niche categories including CLAT, IP MAT, NID, and NEFT among others.
We started the platform with two of my co-founders, Karan Mehta and Harsh Gagrani who come from the offline coaching domain. So, we have expertise in both – online as well as offline, and ours is an online-offline hybrid learning program.
We already have 15 Studios in Bhopal where our academic team sits, and we are in the process of setting up centers all across the country, and we have an aggressive expansion plan for tier two and tier three cities.
We conduct LIVE Webinars exclusively for those students who aspire to choose a career in careers other than Engineering & Medical Science. Our experienced and empathetic Teachers mentoring & teaching via LIVE & Interactive Classes ensure Quality Content Delivery in each and every class.
Our online program is feature-rich that includes live classes, personalised learning, recorded lectures, assessments, mock tests, handwritten notes, monthly current affairs magazines, etc. We are well equipped with the entire infrastructure, including full-time faculties, CCTV coverage, parent-teacher meetings, study areas, library, all India mock tests, computer labs, separate evaluation tests, and doubt-clearing sessions. The faculty is super supportive and motivating, and they come from various backgrounds. We provide a mentor or teacher for every student who tracks the students’ progress just like what they do in offline coaching.
Talking about CSR, he says, “Our program named Udaan is meant for economically weaker students. We have also created a batch called Super 30 where we teach underprivileged students for free and help them become successful.”
On the growth and finances front, he says that they have grown over 300% during the last year. And just a couple of months ago they raised $4 Million from Sixth Sense Ventures, India’s first domestic, and consumer-focused venture fund. The company plans to use the funds to improve existing products, develop new products, expand its hybrid coaching centers and build its marketing reach and technology platform.
On the future front, Gaurav adds that Toprankers is also looking to make acquisitions in the study abroad and career counseling segments.
