Getting involved at Philtre – The Bistro

They say that you can judge a book by just knowing the author’s perspective even before reading it. And I totally understood the meaning of this saying when I went to Philtre – The Bistro, Sector 29, Gurgaon; the moment I stepped in, I got involved in this wonderland.

Philtre is a the buzzing party destination of Gurgaon. It’s one of a kind restaurant in Sector 29 and certainly is going to be a tough competitor to the innumerable lounges that we see today across sector 29. It has a hypnotic pull with the classy looks of a well equipped Bar, dark coloured decor and dim lightings.

Philtre is spread across 2 floors; first being the indoor sitting and second roof-top. The rooftop is an amazing place and ideal for a chill out evening with friends in the coming summers. The covered area also has been tastefully done with stylish and aesthetically pleasing interiors.

It was one of those rare cold evenings this year, and having travelled from the other end of the town, I was longing for some hot drink and thanked the staff when they served me a steaming hot cup of coffee. I coolly settled down in the soft sofa and leisurely enjoyed the hot coffee first.

The menu at Philtre was classy and focused on the variety of the drinks and food offered – traditional Indian dishes along with a few Mediterranean and continental twists. The Bar menu was also elaborated and the presentations of their drinks was artistic.

We started with mock-tails and enjoyed the complementing starters that were served along with my Cucumber Ginger Fizz, Ultimate Passion and Piney Basil Slush. In the cocktails section, the Botany of Desire is a visual delight. Served on a botanical garden platter, the drink presentation was straight out a painting canvass. A tropical drink with ingredients like coconut, pineapple, and basil, it was divine.

Moving on to the appetizers, among the Indian variety we ordered; Soya Boti Kebab with Mint Chutney Sphere n Golden Garlic Dust, and Rajma Galouti, Ulte Tawa Paratha Nachos, Achari Mayo from the veggie section.

The presentation of the starters was eye-catching. All of them tasted equally delicious. Soya Boti Kebabs were very soft and nicely marinated and the mint chutney enhanced the taste.

Rajma Galouti- Ulte Tawa Paratha Nachos-Achari Mayo was another masterpiece form the chef. The nachos perfectly replaced the usual soggy paranthas that you normally get elsewhere.

Moving on the main course we tried the “Amritsari Falafel Curry, Dhaniya Kulcha”, Olive and Bell Pepper Biryani and the Mix Vegetable with Golden Onions and Cashewnut curry from the veggie section. The serving size of the dishes at Philtre was plentiful and sumptuously filling.

If you are a regular reader of my features, you must be aware that no meal of mine is complete without Desserts. So what else now, I quickly dug into the amazing desserts; Choco Mellow Kick and Litchi Rabri Panna Cotta with saffron foam served specially to us by the chef.

Overall we had a great satisfying meal at Philtre and feel that it’s a must try.  The service is fantastic and this is a place to enjoy some great food.
